New Homes Step by Step

  1. Attend mandatory program training
  2. Register project by filing application form with Minnesota GreenStar
  3. Meet with project team, set project goals, design project and fill out checklist
  4. Submit pre-construction plan review documents (checklist, construction documents, plans, erosion control plan, and waste management plan)
  5. Meet with third-party verifier for an Independent Plan Review and preconstruction HERS index calculation
  6. Schedule pre-construction plan review with Minnesota GreenStar
  7. Pre-construction plan review (correct at meeting if possible)
  8. Bring: Site plan, construction documents, completed checklist, landscape plan, waste management plan, and any other documentation necessary before beginning construction
  9. Correct/amend project scope, plan, checklist and resubmit to Minnesota GreenStar
  10. Minnesota GreenStar approves checklist, plans, and pre-tests and authorizes construction
  11. Obtain a building permit
  12. Begin construction
  13. Pre-drywall - framing and thermal bypass inspection by authorized third-party rater
  14. Complete construction
  15. Final project inspected by authorized third-party verifier
  16. Submit necessary project documentation, test results, and final checklist to Minnesota GreenStar
  17. Minnesota GreenStar reviews post-project checklist, test results, documentation, and certifies

Pre-Construction Plan Review Meeting

Meet with a Minnesota GreenStar representative before beginning construction to discuss techniques and strategies for the project. During this two hour meeting, selected credits, potential credits and opportunities for improvement will be discussed. Please come prepared with construction documents, plans, an erosion control plan, a waste management plan, and any other documentation necessary before beginning construction. This meeting must happen before construction begins. After plans have been approved construction may begin.
